Dr. Javier Solana Sánchez holds a BSc in Telecommunications Engineering, a Master’s in Telemedicine and Bioengineering, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. He is a highly experienced researcher and innovator in the field of neurosciences, with a particular focus on the application of technology to improve healthcare services. He has a strong background in both telecommunications engineering and biomedical engineering, and his work has led to the development of numerous solutions and approaches that have had a significant impact on neuropsychological rehabilitation and training.
Throughout his career, Dr. Solana has participated in more than 17 national and European research projects, many of which have focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. For example, he has worked on the development of an mHealth coaching solution to monitor and promote healthy habits in patients with chronic diseases, as well as on the design of data management systems to optimize brain resilience and recovery after neurological injuries.
One of Dr. Solana’s most significant achievements has been his role as Chief Technology Officer and project coordinator of the Barcelona Brain Health Initiative (BBHI), a large-scale longitudinal cohort study involving over 6,000 volunteers. This study has generated valuable data and insights into brain health, helping to inform and improve health services in the neurosciences.
Dr. Solana’s research expertise is further supported by his extensive publication record, including over 39 articles in scientific journals. His expertise in data science and innovative approaches to neuropsychological assessment and training has also been applied to the development of the GNPT® platform, where he currently serves as CTO. Under his leadership, the platform has been continuously improved and expanded, with the integration of Guttmann Cognitest being a notable achievement.
Since January 2024, Dr. Solana is the Director of Research at the Guttmann Institute. In this role, he leads the strategic direction and overall management of the research department. His responsibilities include the reformulation and implementation of strategic lines of research, the monitoring and accurate evaluation of ongoing projects, and the establishment and coordination of the Scientific Advisory Committee. He chairs the Research and Innovation Committee, promoting a collaborative and innovative research environment. Dr. Solana also develops and manages relationships and synergies with other national and international research centers, promotes innovation and entrepreneurship within the research team, and manages people management, supervising staff and resolving administrative issues.
