Xavier Iglesias

Physical educator

For 35 years, he has contributed to scientific knowledge with more than 100 publications, including 60 in Web of Science, and has presented more than 170 communications at conferences. His research has a translational nature, with the aim of bringing science closer to sports practice. He has worked in individual sports (athletics, swimming, cycling), opposition sports (fencing, judo) and team sports (football, handball). His two main lines of research are bioenergetics and observational methodology. In addition, he has obtained funding for research projects and has three six-year research periods. He has completed a 6-month research stay at the University of Hertfordshire (United Kingdom). He has held leadership positions, such as vice president and president of the Catalan Fencing Federation and director of INEFC Barcelona (2012-2020), promoting equality and attention to students with special needs. He was a high-level fencing athlete and fencing coach, whose students achieved success in Spanish championships and a medal at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.
