Fellowships

The Expert Diploma in Neurorehabilitation is intended for specialist physicians in physical medicine and rehabilitation (including neurology, urology and other specialties) and psychologists involved in the clinical care of people with spinal cord injuries or acquired brain injury, or for those who wish to pursue this professionally in the future; in other words, specialist physicians and psychologists who are fully qualified to exercise the knowledge and skills acquired at the University Institute over the year-long expert course. To advance the training of these professionals, the Institut Guttmann, using the prestigious fellowships of the major US universities as an example, has created these expert training programmes in neurorehabilitation:

Neurorehabilitation of Spinal Cord Injury

Neurorehabilitation of Brain Injury

Neuropsychological Rehab. of Brain Injury

Functional Rehabilitation of persons affected by a severe neurological disability

Aims
  • To train experts in the specialised treatment and rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injury or acquired brain injury, as well as the complications of their disease.
  • To prepare professionals with specific knowledge and skills to participate in multidisciplinary teams, supporting the convergence of knowledge and benefiting from it.
  • To train experts with the skills to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care for patients with spinal cord injury/brain injury.
  • To provide these professionals with a working methodology that allows them to create new knowledge, and transfer that knowledge to other professionals who implement it into the rest of the healthcare process, safely and with quality assurance.
Requirements

Doctors:

  • You must hold a Degree in Medicine and as a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or a specialist in Urology.
  • Overseas applicants: to process your application, you must present the official authorisation of your medical degree and, if possible, of your specialist certification.
  • You must have accident and civil liability insurance that covers your entire residency in our hospital. Ask the Teaching Secretary for more information. If you already have an insurance policy, it will be sufficient for you to provide a copy of the policy and contract.

Psychologists:

  • You must hold a Degree in Psychology or the corresponding receipt that it is being processed.
  • Overseas applicants: to process the application, you must present the official authorisation of your certification as a Psychologist.
  • You must hold a Master's Degree in Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and Cognitive Stimulation. Places will be prioritised for former students of this Master’s degree and the enrolment of professionals from other postgraduate studies (master’s or doctorate) in neuropsychology or related disciplines will only be considered in the event that a place becomes vacant.

Allocation of places
  • The evaluation of all applications and the selection of candidates for the places included in this application process will be carried out at a plenary session of the Institut Guttmann Teaching Committee.
  • The Committee reserves the right to interview candidates as it deems appropriate.
  • Candidates will be notified of the results of the application process via the Institut Guttmann Teaching Secretary.
  • The Committee may cancel the application process in the event that no candidates presented are considered suitable.
  • The Committee’s decision is final, and presenting yourself as a candidate expressly includes knowing and accepting this and all the other rules and requirements of the process.

The validity of this application will be subject to return receipt within the application period and sending the requested supporting documentation by certified mail. All applications arriving after the deadline will be automatically disqualified. In the event of errors in the application or in the documentation submitted, the candidate will be notified and must correct them within fifteen business days after receipt of the notification. Dates for the receipt of applications are given in the teaching guide for each programme.
