IKEA and the Institut Guttmann work together for the inclusion of people with disabilities
We have opened a new kitchen in the functional rehabilitation area of the Institut Guttmann, thanks to the collaboration of Ikea. The kitchen is used in the treatment of patients for the training of activities of daily life and with the aim of enhancing the autonomy of each person.
The IKEA store has designed a kitchen adapted to the Institut Guttmann, where patients will be able to carry out activities of daily life in their rehabilitation program. In addition, IKEA Badalona and the Institut Guttmann have extended their joint collaboration in terms of accessibility to the design of the first adapted kitchen available in the store of Badalona and the improvement of accessibility and the route at the IKEA establishment.
In this way both parties have joined forces to ensure the inclusion and accessibility of people with disabilities in their daily lives. The IKEA interior design team at Badalona has worked with the team of Occupational Therapists of the Institut Guttmann and with Ricard Hernández, a patient who has given advise on those improvements that they can do for a person that goes in a wheelchair. The adaptations include the height of the furniture, the design of the drawers, a sink with a height suitable for approaching the chair and auxiliary modular and scrollable furniture to make the activities of daily life easier.
This collaboration demonstrates the willingness of both institutions regarding the commitment to work for a fairer, more inclusive society and where all people, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy the same opportunities in an autonomous way.
