The Institut Guttmann celebrates the Hand Hygiene Day, motivated by the World Health Organization
On Thursday 5th May is celebrated the international Hand Hygiene Day, motivated by the World Health Organization since 2009. The celebration has the objective of educating and involving health professionals and hospital managers in prevention of healthcare associated infections. The simple and efficient measure of Hand Hygiene could prevent this kind of infections and despite it is a responsibility of health professionals, it is also important the commitment and the participation of patients and their families.
The Institut Guttmann has joined this campaign with a series of actions during the day, like a stand in the entrance of the hospital, where gadgets was given with the message “Clean your hands save lives”.
The World Health Organization campaign wants to ‘bring people together’ in support of hand hygiene improvement globally, considering Hand hygiene as part of an infection prevention and control programme in all settings that support surgery, prevents patient infection and reduces an avoidable burden on health systems.
