The Institut Guttmann is part of the first functional unit for persistent pediatric covid in Catalonia. It is a pioneering unit created by the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital as a result of the need to care for children and adolescents who, after passing the covid, continue to show symptoms for months, mainly fatigue, shortness of breath, weakness and headaches. The Unit began operating on 15th December and currently treats 14 patients in the Northern Metropolitan area, Lleida and Girona, aged between 10 and 17 years.
The team has professionals from the Neuropsychology Area of the Institut Guttmann under the collaboration agreement established between the two entities with the creation of a Pediatric Neurorehabilitation Functional Unit since 2012. The persistence of these symptoms results in an inability to perform basic activities of daily living, school, social or personal life. It is important, therefore, to make a global assessment and give multidisciplinary attention to the physical, cognitive and emotional manifestations that it entails.
