James Fawcett, Chair of the Brain Repair Center at Cambridge University, visits the Institut Guttmann
Professor J. Fawcett visited the hospital and met with members of the care team and researchers from the Institut Guttmann. He explained the research related to the regeneration of spinal cord injury that he has been carrying out at the Cambridge University, Brain Repair Center.
Recognized and prestigious international scientist, his main field of study is the repair of damage to the central nervous system, particularly the spinal cord.
During the workshop he explained the double focus on which his research is based. On the one hand, how certain therapies can help improve the inhibitory environment that exists after spinal cord injury that inhibits axonal growth. On the other hand, how to improve brain neuroplasticity after spinal cord injury using therapies and pharmacology.
Fawcett also works on the design of protocols for clinical trials in spinal cord injury.
