The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, visits the Institut Guttmann
The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the General Director of Traffic, Pere Navarro, have visited the Institut Guttmann-Hospital of Neurorehabilitation, in Badalona. They visited the hospital facilities and held a brief meeting with the president of the Institut Guttmann Board of Trustees, Antoni Esteve, and members of the hospital's management team, led by the center's two co-directors, Montserrat Bernabeu and Montserrat Caldés.
The minister has expressed his interest in social programs related to the prevention of traffic accidents, such as the Institut Guttmann's traffic accident prevention program, aimed at young people between 15 and 18 years of age, which has already trained almost 800,000 students of 7,300 institutes in Catalonia. They were also especially interested in the research projects that the organization has in progress.
During the visit, Minister Grande-Marlaska also held a meeting with patients, victims of traffic accidents, who are currently in hospital undergoing their neurorehabilitation process.
The Institut Guttmann is the only Reference Center in Catalonia for the treatment of spinal cord injury, and annually attends to more than 5,000 patients. In addition, as part of its social commitment, the Institut Guttmann has a traffic accident prevention program aimed at young people between the ages of 15 and 18, which has already trained almost 800,000 students from 7,300 institutes in Catalonia.
