Patients of the Institut Guttmann participate in an accessibility workshop of Apple
A group of patients of the Institut Guttmann joined the last 19th May a workshop in the Apple Shop at the Shopping Centre “La Maquinista” (Barcelona). They were accompanied by their families and an Occupational Therapist of the Institut Guttmann, in order to test different accessibility tools of Apple products.
The workshop started with a video about Christopher Hills, a boy with cerebral palsy who nowadays is a video editor and also an accessibility consultant for Apple. Christopher, uses at work one of the tools showed in the workshop: the “switch control”, which is connected to dispositive and allow controlling the computer or the tablet. After presentation, patients could use this control, writing an e-mail and also drawing.
The second part of the workshop focused on Ipad’s accessibility functions, like “Technical Facilities”, the voice function, or the dictate function.
The Institut Guttmann organizes, as part of the neurorehabilitation process; activities outside the hospital, with the objective of prepare patients for a new life.
