Preview of the film The Best of Men
On Thursday 19th November took place in Texas Cinemas in Barcelona the successful preview of the film The Best of Men, a biopic realized by the BBC about Dr. Guttmann and all that he did to change the paradigm of spinal cord injury.
The event, exclusive for the press and the Friends of Institut Guttmann, was attended by the film director Ventura Pons and the film critic Victor Riverola. In addition, the event hosted the presentation by the territorial delegate of ONCE in Catalonia, Xavier Grau, that presented a special ONCE coupon to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the hospital. The draw will be on Saturday 28th November.
The film, who liked everyone for its realism, shows how at the end of the 2nd World War, Dr. Guttmann, refugee of Nazi Germany, arrives to Stoke Mandeville hospital. Horrified of finding patients with spinal cord injury immobilized, heavily sedated and some about to die from pressure ulcers, he immediately starts a new treatment, eliminating sedatives and entering into conflict with the medical staff and patients.
The Guttmann Institute has acquired in this year of its 50th anniversary the rights of the film, that dubbed and subtitled in Catalan and Spanish, will be issued on 28th November and 5th December by TV3 and TVE (la2) in afternoon slot.
