Visiting La Marató de TV3 research at Guttmann Barcelona
During this week we have hosted at the facilities of Guttmann Barcelona Institute of Brain Health and Neurorehabilitation the visit of a group of 40 people, all of them donors of La Marató de TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio turned into 2021 and dedicated to Mental Health.
In this past edition of La Marató de TV3, the Institut Guttmann received funds to carry out a research project led by Dr. Gabriele Cattaneo based on the development of a treatment for resistant depression at home through the implementation of non-invasive stimulation techniques using a portable self-administered device. The project, which must demonstrate its efficacy, safety and feasibility, will be carried out on 40 people.
It has been proven that 30% of people with depression are resistant to traditional treatments. In these cases, the aim is to see if alternative therapies can be applied using tDCS (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation), a non-invasive neuromodulation technique that applies galvanic current at low intensity to the scalp, with the aim of stimulating specific areas of the brain.
These visits are part of an initiative promoted by La Marató de TV3 that aims to give donors first-hand information about the fruits of the research carried out thanks to their contributions.
