The Institut Guttmann has hosted today a very special event that has had the participation of the NBA player and world champion Ricky Rubio, and in which the BUC Rugby Wheelchair team has received one of the ColaCao and the Higher Sports Council scholarships

Pau Navarro and Darío Salcedo, two patients of the Institut Guttmann who are part of the rugby team adapted from the Barcelona Universitari Club (BUC), have represented the team. Darío and Pau met the sport of rugby at the Institut Guttmann during their rehabilitation process, together with other patients. Thanks to this scholarship, which consists of sports equipment and adapted competition chairs, all players of this wheelchair rugby team that was born in the hospital in 2012 will benefit. The team is formed by 90% of patients from the Institut Guttmann

Dr. Bernabeu, Care Director of the Institut Guttmann has revealed at the press conference that in our hospital sports practice is fully integrated into the rehabilitation process of people with disabilities and that adapted sport allows people with disabilities to improve their health, their degree of functional autonomy, their self-esteem and their capacity for relationship.

The Vamos Scholarship program was created to promote sport among the youngest in the country and promote the values ​​that guide all sports activities. In total, a total of 300,000€ is earmarked to realize the dreams of children and young people between 6 and 20 years old who, due to their attitude and values, are an example for society.
