In 2007 my life stopped short. I suffered a severe head injury that caused devastating brain damage: diffuse axonal injury. I was in a coma for 16 days and was transferred to the Institut Guttmann soon afterwards. My first memory is when they explained what had happened to me and what my future would be like, I spent the first few nights not wanting to wake up the next day. I didn’t want to experience what was happening to me.
I was at the Institut Guttmann for 6 months and during this time they taught me to speak again, to walk, to think and to feel... they helped me start my new life. A life that is nothing like the previous one. Over 10 years have passed since that first memory of rejecting my life and today I am continuing to learn how to improve my quality of life with a great deal of effort and dedication.
