Our life is filled with everyday activities that we do almost automatically, without thinking. Where and when we eat, what we will do in the evening, who we want to spend our time with or what to do on holiday. We often decide without being aware that we are making a choice, but not everyone can do the same: people with disabilities have limited decision-making power about their own lives. Empowering them and providing them with the resources to reverse this situation is also part of the rehabilitation process, which does not end when they leave the hospital. The Institut Guttmann's community intervention programmes Vida Activa and Youth Ability were created with this aim in mind. We will meet Esti, who lived for 2 weeks with 4 other people with spinal cord injury to develop all kinds of community activities. And we will follow the young people attending a 3-day summer campus.
