Jesús Benito
Dr. Benito studied medicine at the University of Navarra. He continued his studies in the United States, where he completed his specialty in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Rush Presbyterian St Luke's Medical Center, Chicago). After his residency he completed a subspecialty year in spinal cord injury management at South-Western Medical Center, Dallas. He obtained Board certifications in both specialties (2002) and returned to Spain, where he has been working as an associate physician in the spinal cord injury unit at the Institut Guttmann in Barcelona since then. He completed his PhD in Neurosciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2013), with the topic of gait training in spinal cord injury, and the use of electromechanical systems and noninvasive transcranial stimulation. His main interests are motor recovery in spinal cord injury and robotic rehabilitation. He has published numerous scientific articles in specialized journals and has participated as a researcher in projects with public and private funding, both national and international. He is a reviewer of national and international journals related to neurology and neurorehabilitation. He was president of the Spanish Society of Paraplegia between 2018 and 2022.
